Next (pre-96 - ??) was a Color NeXTStation donated by GMU with 420MB disk space, 16MB RAM and a 25 MHz 68040 processor running the NeXT Operating System (NeXTSTEP)[1] v3.0 - This was essentially CMU Mach 2.0 with the NeWS-based NeXT GUI. Many GNU packages have been installed, as well as the X Window System Release 5.

Next was the secondary name server for domain TJHSST.EDU, and the Network Time Protocol server for the lab, running the Extended Network Time Protocol version 3 daemon (xntpd3). It also served as the BOOTP server for the 386 PC's in the lab, to eliminate the need for hard-coded PC IP addresses and names[2].
