'''Weather''' (?? - Present) is a server in the CSL Machine Room that hosts a serial connection to the AWS datalogger which in turn connects to the weather station located outside the lab. After the old machine (one of the [[Workstation#Vectras_.28December_1996_-_.3F.3F.29|Vectras]], a HP Vectra with a 133MHz processor, 128MB RAM, and a 1.2GB hard drive running Debian) suffered a hard drive crash in the spring of 2009, it was replaced by another HP Vectra VL400, with an 866MHz Pentium III, 256MB RAM, and a 20GB hard drive. This machine now runs Gentoo. The drive of this server was eventually moved to the chassis of Cas, which was one of the ~7 Pentium 4 servers donated by the FAA to the school. These servers are equipped with a Intel Celeron processor and 2GB RAM.

The Weather station runs JAWS, written by Jeff Grafton, and has data back to 2004. We have sent climate information to NBC4 and Wunderground over the last few years, but history may say we used to send to ABC7.

History

Weather was originally a Pentium Vectra, which was later replaced with a Pentium III Vectra VL400. It was later moved into Cas's chassis. On 5 June, 2009, Weather may have suffered a hard drive failure, causing weather station data to be invalid. It was recoverable when connected to another machine and all files were copied off successfully. The old Pentium Vectra was replaced with a Pentium III Vectra VL400 running Gentoo Linux, whose hard drive was later moved into Cas.
