xray, also known as top and franklin at various points in time, was never given a permanent name. Previously, when this server was called franklin, it was the mail server for the lab. However, this service was moved to a virtual machine. Consequently, when this server was re-purposed, it was renamed Xray to avoid confusion with the virtual machine, also called franklin. Now, xray serves as a Sun Ray server for the APCS lab. Xray was bought around Thanksgiving 2006 and was originally named after Benjamin Franklin, the first U.S. Postmaster General.
